Crescent Head - First Stop North

Crescent Head - First Stop North

First stop, and more of a prequel to our travels than anything, Australia!

We're here spending a couple of weeks with Family and friends before heading away from anywhere we can legitimately call home.

While we are here on the big desert island, we're taking a week off from family dinners and visits to nephews to take to the road and head north, north into the beachside jungles of Queensland.

First stop is crescent head in New South Wales. A quiet little surf town (the small size is felt even more strongly in these early autumn days when the summer holidayers have returned to work).

We arrived in the tail end of a late-coming, heavy-hitting, summer storm. As we drove up the highways we saw flooded fields everywhere on either side of us. Half of our campsite was under water, but we were lucky and didn't have to set up in the rain, nor did we get hit by any major downpours at any point. We dodged a few showers inside the local RSL, downed a few beers and sunk a few rounds of pool.

We slept well in our spacious Bell tent by HomeCamp. Camping in a group, especially with bad weather, is dreamy with a tent like this. We had plenty of room to play cards and drinking games.

During the night the rain came down hard, but we thankfully stayed nice and dry, even with only the fly nets on.

We rose early to hit the road and started on toward our last stop in New South Wales, Byron Bay.

Location: crescent head

Eats: Bakery

A bakery in the centre of the small town that has a huge range of tasty treats and savoury foods. Quick and easy eats.

Drinks: Crescent Head RSL

Basic interiors and for some reason there was no music playing while we were in there, which didn't help the ambience. However, there is pool and pokies and an attached bowls club and golf course.

Stays: Waves campground

Just outside town down a dirt track, it feels nicely secluded, which would be valuable during peak seasons when the town will be full to the brim. Helpful staff and nice sites and facilities, bring your own cooker to avoid waiting to cook.
