South Lombok Surfing

With the unexpected extended rainy season, we didn't like our chances at tackling the great Mount Rinjani that towered over Lombok Island.

Instead, we chose to extend our stay in the small surfing village of Gerupuk. In hindsight, the choice was far and away the best option.

A week of non-stop surf (Lisa's days off aside, following an incident with a DJI drone propeller and her finger) was unreal.

With locals taking you out on their converted fishing boats, now full time surf vessels, you can reach point breaks far off shore that peel cleanly again and again all day long.

The local guides are incredible surfers in their own right and will jump in with you, making sure you know the best take off spots and helping you pick the best waves early.

All in all, for 2 hours in the water - a twenty-five minute boat ride either way - surf boards for four and a guide in the water to help push our less experienced surfers onto waves, the total cost was somewhere in the region of $45nzd.

The experience was beyond incredible, with a really nice vibe in the water and some real talent to admire from the boat when you get tired.

You can't go wrong with 1, 2 or 20 days of this.
